What do you improve a stellar experienced squad who have secured back-to-back titles, including a league-cup double boasting thirty victories from thirty-two matches?

Recruit a raft of former professionals who have performed at the top tier of club football and international football as you aim for more honors.

A Greater Manchester side boasts an amateur veterans team with nine former top-flight players in their active lineup.

Two Hundred Twenty-Two Top Division Scores, Three Hundred Twenty-Five International Appearances

The team Vets Over-35s are situated in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire Vets League Premier Division.

The squad list this season features nine ex- top-flight players, with a combined over 1,800 top-flight appearances.

The high-profile squad also includes over 220 Premier League goals and over 320 international caps.

They feature one forward, who netted 37 goals in 117 games for his former club after signing for them for nine million pounds from German league side SC Freiburg in 2012.

He made his debut for Wythenshawe in their most recent home-field game versus defending champions their rivals and netted all six goals in a 6-2 victory - including a half-hour first-half triple.

Stephen Ireland started playing for the side in preseason this summer through close friend and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland midfielder then invited additional former professionals, who all play in a weekly nine-a-side match, to participate.

Former Senegal forward Oumar Niasse, who scored 12 goals in sixty-five Premier League matches for Everton and even now attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his first appearance versus Collegiate OB - who are based in the city and wear an Blue training kit as their uniform.

"My friend Stephen said 'join and have a game, it's enjoyable'," said Niasse.

"Then he told me we were facing a side from the city and the shock I had when I noticed them sporting Blue shirts - I thought this is wrong for me!

"When you still love football and you feel you can still play, anywhere you can kick a ball, what are you going to choose?

"The fans who turn up and watch are pleased and to give a moment if they watch us playing there and to ask us questions - it's more like the joy of us getting a place we can play, with structure of course."

Such is the strength in depth at Wythenshawe, he had his debut at defender.

"It's a bit different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Scenario

Along with the forward's 6 goals on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted 8 in 3 games for the side, while Boyd hit five on his first appearance and Lescott, a defender by trade, notched a triple in one match as a striker.

The team are top of the Premier Tier with 3 victories from three and a goal difference of +19.

One opponent, 38, who features on the wing for Collegiate OB, came up against ex- Latics defender Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his nine-year-old son who Emile Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at 2 global tournaments for Honduras, in as well as playing in more than two hundred top-flight games.

"It was going round like wildfire they had all these ex-Premier League players," said Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"Also Heskey got on and he's got over 60 England caps.

"We held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a man sent off and it was hard.

"Our group really have not ceased talking about it - I was calling my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"The opponents were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the return fixture."
